The most common type of scooter nowadays ridden by adults is an electric scooter. This is mainly because of how convenient electric scooters are. This is not the case with kick scooters which can be ridden by adults too and provide other benefits. Convenience might not be one of them but if you want to lose some weight or get fit a kick scooter is a great way to do so. With a kick scooter, you always have at least one leg working.
Pushing yourself makes for a great exercise that is implemented while on your commute to work. This can save you a lot of time as you won't have to go to the gym unless you're trying to bulk up or lose a lot of weight in a short period of time. Riding a kick scooter is also great for chronic conditions as well as for portability purposes. All these great advantages are possible thanks to some of the most notable scooter pats such as the deck.
What to Look for in a Kick Scooter Deck
Weight
Without a deck, a scooter wouldn't be a scooter which is why you should put a lot of emphasis on one when buying a kick scooter. One thing to keep in mind is the weight of the deck. Lighter scooter decks are better when it comes to doing tricks while heavier ones give you a smoother and more stable ride. If you are heavier than most people though you should go for a heavier deck so there is enough support.
Length
Another important factor to consider when buying decks for scooters is their length. The length of a deck for scooter depends on your height as well as riding style. With a shorter deck, you'll be able to spin a lot quicker while with a longer deck you'll be able to hop higher up. Longer decks also let you stand on the scooter more comfortably. Obviously the taller you are the longer the deck you'll need in order to ride safely.
Footspace
The foot space on the deck is mainly going to be determined by the length and width of the deck. While this won't be always the case, usually a longer foot space area will make for a more comfortable scooter when standing on it. You also have more space to land which is especially important if you want to be able to do tricks. What you want to achieve here is as having as much foot space as possible without getting too long of a deck.
Wheelbase
Just like the wheelbase of your care, the wheelbase of a kick scooter is the length between the centre of the rear axle hole to the centre of the axle hole of the fork. The wheelbase is a crucial part of every kick scooter deck as it is determined by three other factors which can make the wheelbase longer without making the actual scooter longer.
Width
The width of a scooter deck affects the way you ride. The wider the deck is the more stable and comfortable it will be but it won't be good for doing tricks. If you want to do tricks then go for a narrower deck. With a wider deck, you will be able to grind on rails and ledges more easily. You will also be able to balance the scooter on a boardslide. Thinner, narrower decks are mainly lighter than wider ones.
Blunt Space
The blunt space is one of those factors that affect the wheelbase. This is the area situated between the front end of the deck and the fork when turned sideways. A deck for scooter with a larger blunt space will make blunt stalls a lot easier. On the other hand, decks for scooters with smaller blunt spaces will make blunt slides a lot easier. With a small blunt space on your deck, you can also make blunt slides on obstacles with a lot less effort.
Headtube Angle
The most important factor when it comes to doing spinning tails and heel whips is the deck's headtube angle. This angle can range anywhere from 82° to 84°. The higher the angle the more distance there will be between your body and the bars. This will allow you to make bar spins a lot easier. A lower angle means you can do spinning tails and heel whips a lot easier. With a higher angle, you will also have the benefit of being able to hop higher and do nose manuals with less effort put into them.
Integrated vs Standard
There are two types of decks for scooters you can choose from, either standard or integrated. A standard scooter deck have their headset cup pressed into their headtube. This makes the headtube slimmer than the cup and comes in a different colour too. With a standard scooter deck, you can use both threadless and threaded forks. An integrated scooter deck is a lot sturdier and wider than a standard deck. Why? Because the deck itself has the headtube cups implemented into it. Integrated scooter decks are easy to tell since they do not have different colours to them and they have a wider headtube than standard decks.
